Spaceport Blues…..

The distant thunder of the huge turbines
Vibrations through alloyed metal and shatterproof glass
That “draining” feeling would be coming soon
The heavy-G burn towards the roof of the world
Then the main drive kicks in hurling him towards the void
The spaces in between those points of civilization
Now he wonders if it wasn’t better
When he used to look up at the stars and wonder
If there was anything, or anyone, out here
120 seconds at the Spaceport gate
2 minutes to say a lifetime of goodbyes
The brief feel of crimson, soft lips, on his
Her arms trying to hold back, her lifetime of dedication
From flying into the black vastness of space
And away from her protection
on Terra.
