Nymph’s Lament…

In the depths
The dark had a name
Nothing so mundane
As Night or Shade
It was called
The Umbra
It held you like a lover
A deep embrace
The ancient touch of
A time before time
Far under the world of men
She would drift
At the edge of it
Never rising fully
Near the surface
Her body in half Shadow
The light of Sol
Filtered greens and yellows
Through the water lilies
And the Hyacinth
And when Beautiful Luna
Took to the Heavens
Motes of Starlight danced
Before Her sight
In symphonic grace
With the ebb and flow
of the Tide
Not since the day
When She breached
The Aquarian threshold
Has she seen such beauty
Before her eyes
In this desolate place
Of warm steam
And scorching alien air
It makes Her skin
Pallid and Her hair as straw
Oh for the days
When it floated free
Around Her cheeks
Dappled in the twilight blue
Of the deep
And Trailed along behind her
A golden banner waving
In a fluid breeze
Gone are those days
Since she was enraptured
By the call of Love
A human emotion
Filled with bright music
And bitter shards
of horrific Pain
For, when it is freely given
It can lift a heart beyond
The reach of Hell
And when it is renounced
It will shatter your soul
Against the Anvil of despair
So she comes
By the dark of the New Moon
And lays within the Shallows
And calls for the Umbra
To take Her home
Yet the shimmering surface
Remains an indifferent witness
And continues to be a Portal
For naught
But Her tears

  15. Geetha B says:

One can really feel the nymph’s lament as you titled the poem. Well done Poet! Heartbreak is quite a singularity in the path of love, so unnecessary and painful yet so deeply connected to love itself for most.

  16. Larysia says:

Fantastical, beautiful, and sad while being entirely honest. Nothing like feeling mystical, invincible, and gorgeous while in love. Nothing like the shattering ache of wanting to return to whence you came when you’re heartbroken, too. That’s what I took from it, anyways πŸ˜‰

  17. moonskittles says:

Ahh.. such gorgeous images you create with your words. Those shards of pain, are sometimes the only ones able to reflect the love in us..
