"Pandora" Thomas Kennington

Thomas Kennington

A curious spirit
A blessing not bestowed
upon Her
by anyone
Except Herself
to carry secrets
so close to Her ample bosom
embracing day dreams and nightmares
so completely
to keep them from
shattering upon a fragile heart
to keep Her desire in the dark
to see prosperity and peace
upon wings
flying farther away from Her
out to sea
She opened the box
as if throwing the doors of
her delicate soul
open wide in a hailstorm
to watch in horror
as the sorrows rained down
on mankind
and closing it back up again
storing winged hope
a sepulcher
to carry with Her
a promise
No more to live
in this brutal cage of dead dreams
no more
to hold on so tight
that it strangled
all the colors from her life

A tremendous job of capturing Pandora’s spirit in opening the box — and the harsh consequences. Your words illuminate her so very well.
