Hold tight
to pattern recognition
Sweet Angel of History
found in a matrix of Antiquity
Lost days
of Summer Sun
Reclaimed and Anointed
with the water of My Youth
deep within the bowels
of these ruined archives
pull to me a sliver of light
from under the pile
of Shadowed Grey
retrieve a sepia photograph
of Her
A time when fire and violence
raged across a young heart
buried so deeply
within my wiry frame
like the thrumming
of an Ancient Machine
When I brokered deals daily
with the Fates
negotiated with Flame and Steel
For what is Love?
But a cavalry charge
into the heart of uncertainty
abandoning reason
to wreck and ruin
for a chance to touch a human soul
and upon disaster
to find that hope’s flame
flickers ever brightly
behind shattered shields
My mind hungers
for nostalgia
and familiar smells
of my martial life
I had found Her eyes
bring me back
to more victorious times
I had come to find
that the curve of Her smile
could rewrite my darkest days
delve back into my past
and push back
the storm clouds and pain
But it is sooner to be
my salvation
that I should live with her
in the present
Here, now,
and no other time
for the past is a treasured friend
whose spirit has left this mortal world
and tomorrow
is a beautiful stranger
I have yet to meet

I loved these lines, and for me, they formed the heart of your poem that’s full of heart. A rush forward, risking embarrassment and pain, but for the reward of human connection. A great poem to describe that courageous striving forward.
